iPhone XR successor might come with dual cameras in 2019
The ‘budget’ iPhone XR presently comes with only a single lens on the back, but the phone’s successor might pack a dual camera system, according to a report by Mac Otakara. Citing information from Chinese suppliers, the iPhone XR successor will apparently come with a wide-angle lens along with a secondary lens.
All this while, Apple’s implementation of dual camera systems included an extra telephoto lens to deliver blurred portraits. The telephoto lens also offers 2x optical zoom. The iPhone XR also offers portrait mode but relying only one camera for it. Apple has used special algorithms to simulate a bokeh effect using a single lens. As a result, the portrait mode only works with human faces and as such, the quality of bokeh is not as good as the iPhone XS.
Earlier reports have pointed out that Apple will launch two flagship 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch iPhones, that will likely succeed the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max. Both of them will come with OLED displays and a triple-camera setup on the back. The third-lens could be a super wide-angle or a ToF sensor. The report notes that two out of three cameras might feature common parts to keep the costs down.
Furthermore, Apple is likely to use 3D-moulded rear glass that will cover the rather large camera bump Digit.in observed in an early leaked render. The same design is expected to feature in the iPhone XR successor as well, which could come with a 6.1-inch LCD display like the present one.
The report also expects the future iPhones to come with USB-C to lightning cables with support for 18W fast-charging.
