Four Nokia phones start getting April security patches

HMD Global has been launching Nokia phones under Google’s Android One programme and, hence, they are entitled to get timely security updates. On these similar lines, a bunch of Nokia phones have started getting the April security patches. Although it’s late to get the latest update, at least the Finnish giant is delivering what it promises at launch events. The Nokia phones which are getting the April Security patch are Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6.1 Plus, Nokia 6.1 and Nokia 5.1.

According to a report, the April security update for the Nokia 7 Plus is 88MB, for the Nokia 6.1 Plus is 61MB, for the Nokia 6.1 is 88.2MB, and the for Nokia 5.1 is 111MB. This April Android Security Bulletin contains details of security vulnerabilities affecting Android devices other than Pixel phone. Google releases a separate report to highlight the changes in Pixel devices. The latest security patch was released on April 3 this year.

According to the Android Security Bulletin, the Android security patch for the month of April resolves a total of 11 issues with vulnerabilities ranging from high to critical. These issues were distributed among general framework, media framework and system sub-heads, Google said. The most severe of these issues is a critical security vulnerability in the media framework that could enable a remote attacker using a specially crafted file to execute arbitrary code within the context of a privileged process.

Last month, Google released its Android Security and Privacy 2018 Year In Review report in which it claimed that the overall health of Android ecosystem improved as compared to last year. The tech giant claimed that in the fourth quarter of 2018, 84 percent more devices received a security update as compared to the devices in the same quarter last year.
