Nokia smartphones receive Android 10 update roadmap

No sooner did Google announce the official name of its next Android release than Nokia parent HMD Global published an update roadmap for it. Juho Sarvikas, the Chief Product Officer for HMD Global, published the Android 10 update timeline for Nokia smartphones in a tweet last evening. By the looks of it, the update will start rolling out in the last quarter of the year and go on till the second quarter of 2020.

When Google officially launches Android 10 later this year, the first few Android One smartphones to get it will be the Nokia 9 PureView, Nokia 8.1, and Nokia 7.1. That will happen in the middle of the fourth quarter of the current year. Soon after that, towards the end of the year and around the beginning of the next, the Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6.1 Plus, and Nokia 6.1 will receive Android 10.

After being the fastest to upgrade Nokia phones from N to O and O to P, I am super excited to share with you that the Q(ueue) for Nokia phones is moving fast as we get ready to welcome Android 10 on Nokia smartphones – roll out starts in Q4, 2019! #Nokiamobile #android10 pic.twitter.com/qXM4ZXAPBo

In the first half of the first quarter of 2020, the Nokia 4.2, Nokia 3.2, Nokia 3.1 Plus, and Nokia 2.2 will taste Android 10. In the second half of the same quarter, the Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 5.1 Plus, and Nokia 1 will see Android 10. It's only in the second quarter of 2020 that the Nokia 5.1, Nokia 3.1, Nokia 2.1, and Nokia 1 will get to run the Android 10 release. It may be late but it's definitely better than never, we suppose.

Google announced yesterday that Android Q, which is currently undergoing beta testing, has been renamed Android 10. With this release, Google is ditching the convention of giving its releases names of sweet treats and desserts in order to portray Android as a global product. The first smartphone to run Android 10 will be Google's own Pixel 4, which is expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
