Asus ROG Phone II with 120Hz HDR display, Snapdragon 855 launched in India: All you need to know

Back in July, Asus launched its second gaming phone in China and has now introduced the Asus ROG Phone II in India as well. The device joins a growing list of gaming handsets and the company is aiming at mobile gamers by offering high refresh rate display, Snapdragon 855+ processor, a number of gaming accessories and more. The ROG Phone II will go up against the likes of OnePlus 7, Asus Zenfone 6Z and other upper mid-range range handsets. The company has also announced a slew of accessories for the device.

Asus ROG Phone II specifications 

Asus ROG Phone II offers an amalgam of metal and glass design with an RGB-lit ROG logo at the back. It comes equipped with a 6.59-inch AMOLED display that has a 1080 x 2340p resolution with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 10-bit HDR support. The display refresh rate can go up to 120Hz and is said to have 1ms latency, which is aimed at enhancing the gaming experience on the device. The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor, and it comes in two variants, one with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage and another with 12GB RAM and 512GB of internal space. While pricing of the latter variant is announced, it will be made available for purchase in India at a later date. 

The ROG Phone II also gets a spec bump over its predecessor in terms of camera. It comes equipped with a 48MP Quad Bayer sensor for the main camera and it is supplemented with a 13MP sensor that has 125 degree ultra-wide-angle lens. It is backed by a 6000mAh battery that supports 30W ROG HyperCharge technology, along with Quick Charge 4.0 support. On the front is a 24MP sensor. 

ROG Phone II

Alongside the ROG Phone II, Asus has announced a slew of new gaming accessories that are compatible with the handset. There’s the ROG TwinView II, which is a second 120Hz display that has a 1ms response time and its own 5000mAh battery. It charges via a Type C, features Turbo fan cooling, RGB lighting, and a 3.5mm audio jack. While it reminds us of the Nintendo DS, the TwinView II accessory can be used in games to either view a map or even play two games at once. 

ROG Phone II

Asus is also bringing its ROG Kunai gamepad to India, which offers 25-key control, features a USB Type C port and supports Bluetooth wireless connectivity. The modular controller is quite similar to the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons, which also detach from the device. Moving on, there’s the ROG Mobile Desktop Dock and Asus Professional Dock, along with the ROG AeroCooler II. 

Asus has also announced the ROG Aero Case that is TwinView II and AeroCooler II compatible. Finally, there’s the Asus Lightning Armour Case for the ROG Phone II that supports RGB customisation, and is said to offer rugged protection for the handset.  Read our first impressions of the ROG Phone II here. 

Asus ROG Phone II price, availability and launch offers

The 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant of the Asus ROG Phone II is priced at Rs 37,999. The 12GB RAM + 512GB storage variant of the handset will be made available soon at a price of Rs 59,999. The handset will be available during the Flipkart Big Billion Days sale and it will go up for sale at 12PM on September 30. The 8GB RAM variant of the device will get an 18W QC 4 charger and AeroCase in-the-box. The 12GB RAM model will come with the company’s 30W fast charger, AeroActive Cooler and an AeroCase in-the-box. 

Asus has also announced the prices of respective ROG Phone II accessories. The ROG 30W charger is priced at Rs 1,999 while the AeroActive Cooler II will be sold at Rs 3,999. The Professional Dock’s price set at Rs 5,499, and one will need to shell out Rs 2,999 for the Lightning Armour Case for the ROG Phone II. in addition, the TwinView Dock II is priced at Rs 19,999, while the Mobile Desktop Dock costs Rs 12,999. Finally, the ROG Kunai gamepad is priced at Rs 9,999. 

Those who use Axis bank debit and credit cards or ICICI credit cards to buy the ROG Phone II will get a 10 percent discount. There’s also a no-cost EMI of up to six months on the handset.
