Bajaj Chetak electric scooter launched with 95+km range starting at Rs 1 lakh

The iconic ‘Hamara Bajaj’ scooter is back in town but in an all-new colourful avatar. Bajaj has officially launched the Chetak electric scooter in India at a starting price of Rs 1 lakh. The new Chetak, which was announced in late October last year, delivers a range of over 95 kilometres on its all-electric powertrain. The scooter's 3kWh battery can be recharged fully in five hours. Available in two trims (namely Urbane and Premium) and in four colour options, the new Bajaj Chetak electric scooter will be open for orders starting tomorrow at four KTM dealerships across Pune and thirteen KTM dealerships across Bengaluru.

The new Chetak, which has for quite some time now been criticised by Indian scooter fans for resembling the Vespa too closely, is built on an all-metal body. The Premium trim of the scooter costs Rs 1,15,000 and offers a metallic paint finish. The Chetak's powertrain includes a 3kWh IP67-rated battery and a 4080W motor that can produce up to 16Nm of torque. Bajaj says the battery is good for up to 70,000 kilometres. The scooter comes bundled with a Chetak Charger that can be used with a domestic 15A wall socket to power the scooter up. In addition, the scooter sports its own USB charging port for juicing up smartphones.

Since some of the elements on the new Chetak can be managed remotely using Bajaj's proprietary smartphone app, the scooter comes with keyless ignition. According to Car and Bike's report, Bajaj's app can provide the user with essential information such as the scooter's location and battery charge status. In addition, the scooter is equipped with all-LED lighting, 12-inch alloy wheels, and a fully digital instrument cluster. The scooter has three drive modes, namely Eco, Sport, and even Reverse, which the company says will help while parking.

According to Bajaj, the new Chetak requires minimal maintenance. The scooter has a service interval of 12,000 kilometres/1 year and an overall warranty period (inclusive of the internal lithium-ion battery) of 50,000 kilometres/3 years. According to the report, the new Chetak will be built at Bajaj's Chakan plant in Maharashtra by an all-female workforce. If you're interested in placing an order for the new Bajaj Chetak, you can head to the official Chetak website by clicking here. You'll be asked to put down an amount of Rs 2,000 for the order. Deliveries of the new Bajaj Chetak are expected to start by the end of February.
