Google wants its apps back on Huawei devices, applies for a license
Huawei’s ongoing tussle with the U.S government has been ongoing for a while now. Because of a trade ban imposed on the Chinese company, Huawei had to lose out on offering Google services and apps in its new smartphones. A new report now states Google is keen to starting working with Huawei again and wants its apps back on Huawei devices.
Google has reportedly applied for a license to bundle Google apps in Huawei devices and effectively resume business with the Chinese tech giant. Just a few days earlier, Google had warned Huawei users not to side load Google apps for security reasons.
Google play and Android Vice President, Sameer Samat told German news outlet DPA that Google has applied for a license but could not comment on when a decision based on the application will be made.
Last year, Microsoft was granted a similar license to do business with Huawei and continue having Windows OS in Huawei laptops like MateBook 13. Google can technically argue with the same logic Microsoft applied and the world will be much better off with Huawei back into familiar territory with access to the Google Play Store and other services.
