Tata Sky HD, SD set-top boxes set to become more expensive

A new Tata Sky subscription is now more expensive than before. Prices of new set-top boxes have been hiked by another Rs 100 for both HD and SD set-top boxes.  The increase in prices comes after a month of offering a Rs 100 discount for HD subscribers. However, the new increase in prices are applicable on both HD and SD subscriptions.

The hike in the price is strange because just last month, Tata Sky briefly stopped offering SD connections and was only selling the HD option to new customers. It seems now Tata Sky is back with SD set-top boxes with a new price that is Rs. 100 higher than what it was previously.

At present, both HD and SD set-top boxes are offered at Rs 1,499, which is Rs. 100 more than the Rs 1,399 price previously. In fact, the increased price is basically the old price that Tata Sky used to charge new customers before it started offering a discount.

With the new prices, a Tata Sky subscription becomes more expensive than Airtel but cheaper than DishTV. Airtel is selling the HD set-top box at Rs 1,300, while DishTV is offering services starting at Rs 1,599.

Furthermore, on top of increasing chargers for new customers, Tata Sky has also hiked prices for multi-TV connections. A secondary SD connection from Tata Sky has been increased to Rs 1,399 from Rs 1,299, while a secondary HD connection is priced at Rs 1,199, up from Rs. 999.
