OnePlus 8 series goes on sale in China from April 17

OnePlus has announced on Weibo that its upcoming OnePlus 8 series will go on sale in China from April 17. The new phones will launch on April 16 in China while the global launch is scheduled for April 14. OnePlus has also released some titbits about the design of the upcoming phones as we near the launch date.

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak and the ensuing health crisis, smartphone manufactures have either postponed launch events or have transitioned to virtual gatherings. Since India is also currently under a lockdown that is expected to lift the same day as the OnePlus 8 launch, the Indian government has hinted that they’re considering the viability of an extension to the lockdown.

Keeping in mind that smartphone manufacturers in India like Xiaomi and Realme have put a restriction on further production of smartphones, it’s currently not known when the OnePlus 8 phones will make it to the country.

Additionally, most of the specifications including the pricing have been leaked in the past few days with OnePlus even revealing some of the key features to keep the hype train going.

OnePlus 8 series leaked specifications

OnePlus 8 features 6.5-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1800 pixels) resolution display that uses an AMOLED panel with a punch-hole cutout. The screen has a 90Hz refresh rate and features an in-display fingerprint sensor. The Pro variant has a slightly bigger 6.7-inch QHD+(3120 x 1440 pixels) resolution AMOLED screen with a faster 120Hz refresh rate.

Both the phones are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip with 8GB/12GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage options.

The regular OnePlus 8 is said to have a triple camera setup on the back, while the Pro variant seems to have four cameras on the rear. According to leaks, the OnePlus 8 has 48MP primary camera with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2MP macro lens. The Pro version has a primary 48MP lens and a secondary 48MP ultra-wide-angle lens. This is accompanied by an 8MP telephoto lens and a 5Mp depth sensor.

OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro have a 16MP selfie camera on the front tucked away in the notch cutout.

The OnePlus 8 has a 4,300mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging while the OnePlus 8 Pro has a bigger 4,500mAh battery that also supports 30W fast wireless charging.
